Back pain is not fun!
It can prevent you from doing things you enjoy like playing sports and hanging out with friends.
Give your back a break with these 4 simple backpack tips…
- Choose the right bag. Swap your sling bag or satchel for a well-fitting backpack with two adjustable, wide, padded shoulder straps. Choose the right size – a bigger bag encourages overfilling. Compartments improve how items can be organised.
- Use both shoulder straps to distribute the load evenly.
- Adjust the length of the straps to ensure the bag is close to the body and does not extend below the lower back.
- Lighten your bag. Keep the load at 10-15% or less of your bodyweight. Pack the heavier items close to your back and the lighter ones towards the outside.
Just carry what you need for today!
Give those tips to your mum and dad!
Worn correctly and not overloaded, a backpack is supported by some of the strongest muscles in the body: the back and abdominal muscles. These muscle groups work together to stabilise the trunk and hold the body in proper balance and postural alignment.
