Western Medical Acupuncture at Physio For All.
Acupuncture is the stimulation of special points on the body, usually by the insertion of fine needles. Originating in the Far East about 2000 years ago, this therapy is recognised by medical professionals as an effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain and sports injuries. The main therapeutic effects of needling are achieved through stimulation of the nervous system.
Conventional medical examination by a qualified practitioner, appropriate investigations and diagnosis confirm that a patient’s symptoms are suitable for treatment with acupuncture, which can be utilised with other physiotherapy techniques such as manual therapy and strength conditioning.
Acupuncture is most commonly used successfully to treat painful complaints, such as musculoskeletal pain associated with tendonitis, frozen shoulder, sports injuries, and chronic spinal pain. Yes, there is scientific evidence to support this!
Commonly Asked Questions :
Is it Painful? Sometimes the initial insertion of the needle can pinch a little – but pain is not the aim of acupuncture. Depending on the technique used, 1-6 needles are used simultaneously.
Does is speed up the healing process? It has been shown to be helpful with treating painful conditions, so that other issues (such as mechanical dysfunction) can be treated more promptly and effectively. It is generally recommended that a course of 4-6 treatments are most beneficial.
At Physio for All, we have Physiotherapists who specialise in this form of acupuncture treatment. If you should have any questions or would like to make an appointment, please contact Physio for All @ 020 7373 0050, or email us at info@physio4all.com.
