What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been  practised in China
for thousand of years. It can  stimulate  the body's self
healing  process and help  restore it's natural balance.
The qualified doctor will puncture into the body surface at strategic
points using very fine  sterilised  disposable needles (never re-used)
and leave the needles in place for about twenty to thirty minutes with
different  stimulations to achieve therapeutic effects.
The use of  needles is virtually painless but you may feel aslight
tingling sensation when the needles are inserted into your body.  Most
people experience a feeling of peace and  relaxation during  acupunc-
ture treatment.  You should be fine to travel home alone afterwards.

How does it work?

The theory of the channels is an important component of the  theories of
tradtional Chinese medicine,  which deals with physiological and patho-
logical changes of the  human body. This serves as the guiding principle of dia-
gnosis and treatment. According to this theory, there exists within the human body a system
of channels through which the vital energy and blood  circulate and  by
which the internal organs are  connected with  superfical  organs and
tissues. The points on the body surface are  the  particular  spots where the vital energy of the inter-
nal organs reaches. When one is ill, the doctor can regulate his flow of
vital energy and blood by puncturing certain poins on  his  body  surface
and thus cure the illness of the associated internal organs.
So acupuncture can produce rapid results but more often it requires a
number of  treatments over a period of time.
