OSTEOPATHY at Physio for All

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a uniquely established and recognised system of manual medicine made up of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body.

It is distinctive in the fact that it looks at the whole body as an interactive system of social, mental, emotional and physical parts that are intrinsically linked via the musculo-skeletal system.

Osteopaths use a variety of techniques to help restore normal bodily function helping recovery from trauma, stresses and disease.

These practitioners use many of the diagnosis and assessment procedures involved in conventional medicine. Its main strength, however, lies in the unique way of analyzing the patient’s structure and function and the use of manual methods of treatment to suit the needs of each individual patient.

What do we do?

Osteopaths take into account every factor in a patient’s life considering the causes of the problem rather then concentrating purely on treating the symptoms.

It’s about a “whole body adjustment” which produces long lasting effects. In this way osteopathy provides relief from pain, restores mobility and significantly improves the quality of life to many patients without the use of drugs or surgery.

  How do we treat?

All treatments start with a detailed case history followed by a physical examination after which we can make a diagnosis and discuss a treatment plan.

We use a wide range of techniques including manipulation and mobilization of joints, soft tissue massage, muscle energy techniques, cranial and visceral therapy according to the patient’s diagnosis, needs, age and level of fitness.

When appropriate, we also discuss exercises that may improve the patient’s posture and biomechanics both at work and during everyday activities.
