Prior to birth
Back pain
Around 75% of pregnant women will suffer with back pain during their pregnancy. Most of the time the pain is pregnancy related and symptoms will subside once the baby has been born but there is much that physiotherapists can do to ease the discomfort.
Pilates classes
Many women find Pilates to be one of best exercises to do, both during and after their pregnancy. One the top reasons Pilates and pregnancy go together so well is that Pilates is great at building core strength. If your abdominals, back, and pelvic floor/Kegel muscles are toned, they will support a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. Pilates is also famous for helping new mothers get their figures back after baby is born!
Exercise routines
Our physiotherapists can work with you to provide customised exercise routines, which will keep you fit and help with the birth.
Sophrology
Sophrology is a technique, which enables a mother-to-be to relax physically and mentally, to help experience childbirth to the full and increase the feeling of happines and reduce anxiety.
Perenial massage
Perineal massage is a technique, which, by encouraging blood flow to the area, increases the elasticity of the perineum for birth. A recent survey showed perineal massage reduced the need for stitches, it also found that fewer women needed an episiotomy, and there was a big reduction in the number of women reporting pain 3 months after the birth.
And after the baby has arrived….
Cranial therapy
Cranio-sacral therapy is ideal for young babies, because of its gentleness.
Babies are often traumatised after birth. They may have been compressed in the birth canal for many hours, or had a difficult birth. Cranio-sacral therapy can restore balance and calm to a baby.
