Gardening Advice
Many of you may now be out in your gardens tending to the roses and attacking the weeds but are you looking after your back?
Gardening is a common cause of back pain. It seems
like a restful activity but in fact you are using muscles and movements that you would rarely use at any other time of the day, (particularly if you have a sedentary job).
Digging and weeding can place a huge strain on your lower back and pruning and hedge cutting can muscle ache and fatigue in the shoulders and upper back.
Follow our Handy Tips to keep gardening fit this Summer!
- Do a simple warm up i.e, brisk walking, bringing up your knees and swinging your arms.
- Kneel rather than bend where possible,(a good investment is a kneeling stool).
- Vary your tasks so you are not doing one activity for a sustained period.
- Stretch your muscles, (the specific ones you have used). Hold each stretch for 30 secs and repeat a couple of times.
- If you do experience
pain after gardening then contact us.
